Andrews Pitchfork

Investment Dictionary -> Andrews Pitchfork

The Andrews pitchfork is an indicator devised by Dr. Alan Andrews in the mid 20th century as a means by which to identify support and resistance in a trending vehicle. The pitchfork is drawn by means of a line drawn from an initial pivot through the middle of two subsequent pivots. This center line is also referred to as a median line (See:median line analysis). Parallel lines are extended forward from the remaining two pivots, producing what resembles a pitchfork. Although present in many charting applications pitchforks are not widely used by analysts despite being a powerful way in which to determine trend direction and strength.
