A Paper Loss is a loss which hasn’t been realized. For example an investor buys shares in company ABC for $600 per share and the share price falls to $500 per share. The investor has made Paper Loss of $100 at that point of time, because he hasn’t sold the stock yet. If the investor sells the stock at that point this will be a real loss.
